Trajan: A Type Specimen

The brief was to create a Type Specimen that would communicate both the formal qualities and graphic possibilities of the typeface Trajan.

Footage was captured using a series of simple stencils and varying movements with light to communicate the craftsmanship and materiality associated with its origins in Roman History, in which letters were inked onto stone before being carved with a mallet or chisel. By using a simple technique to focus on the proportion and elegance of it’s structure, it was possible to position Trajan within a more modern context and allude to its use in countless movie posters within the horror and thriller genre.
